Group messages
A group gets a calendar when it asks for one. A linked chat account then receives new messages in that group. Messages in other chats are ignored, and nothing posted before the calendar was set up is read.
Short replies, stickers, audio, video, polls, and reactions are dropped without being sent anywhere. The text of other messages, and an attached image, is sent to our processing service and to Google Gemini, which decides whether the post is an event and pulls out its details. When a post links to a public web page, that page is read for the event details too.
A message that is not an event is not saved.
What an event keeps
When a post is an event, we store:
- the title, start and end time, location, a short description, and tags;
- the original message text, which is never shown on the site;
- the flyer image, when the post had one;
- the group and message ids, so the same post is not added twice.
We do not store the sender's name or phone number, or any message that is not an event.
Who can see a calendar
A public calendar and its event pages can be opened by anyone. A private calendar asks for a password, which the group shares, and its events are not returned without it. Flyer images are kept at a public web address, so anyone who has a flyer's link can open it, even on a private calendar.
Visiting the site
There are no accounts, and the site does not show advertising. Google Analytics records which pages are opened. It sets a cookie, and Google receives the page address and your IP address. The contact form's reCAPTCHA check sets a cookie of its own. A private calendar's password is kept in your browser for that tab only and is cleared when the tab closes. Times are shown in the timezone set on your device, which is read in the browser and not sent to us.
Opening a page loads a few things from other services, which see your IP address:
- Google Analytics, which records the page view;
- fonts from Google Fonts;
- event data from our database host;
- the Buy Me a Coffee button image.
The contact form
The contact form sends your name, email, group name, and message to us through EmailJS. It uses Google reCAPTCHA to block spam, and Google handles that check under its own privacy policy. We use your details only to reply.
Removing an event or a calendar
To have an event, a flyer, or a whole calendar removed, send us a note with the calendar and the event. Deleting a message in the group does not remove the event by itself.
